Panthers take Tomahawk from Stags

The Delavan Panthers took the long lost Tomahawk from the Hartem Stags with a 50-49 victory at Hartem on Saturday, December 15th. The Tomahawk is a large plaque/trophy that travels throughout the conference to the winning team(s). It was a very sought after item years ago, and the holder took great pride having it in their possession. It is great to see it back, and the players and fans get excited about it again. Since the Tomahawk surfaced in Mason City 3 years ago, the Stags quickly earned it and have had it ever since, going undefeated in conference play for almost 3 full years.

As the score indicates, this was a great game throughout. This is a big rivalry between two teams that know each other very well. Both teams struggled offensively to find a rhythm, and the defense on both sides was intense. Jordan Zimmer may have had his best game of the season, carrying the Panthers offensively, scoring 29 points, while getting the defensive assignment of guarding Dakin Bolen. Zimmer hit an almost impossible baseline jupmer with seconds left to seal the victory for Delavan, putting them up 4. Hartem would hit a 3 pointer with 2 seconds remaining to reach the final score. Dakin Bolen led the Stags with 20.

Sweet!
The Tomahawk is a great traveling tradition.
