Macomb Girl's Visit B-PC/A

macombbomber.jpgTonight, two McDonough County girl’s basketball teams square off at Avon High School. A very seasoned and veteran Lady Bombers are coming off a close loss at Quincy Notre Dame last Thursday, 56-51. In that game, Courtney Lawyer led MHS with 14 points. Macomb is currently 7-3 on the season, with losses to QND, Canton, and Farmington. The Lady Bombers have posted wins over Rushville-Industry, Havana, United Township, Pleasant Plains, Rockridge, Illini West, and Monmouth-Roseville. Macomb is very balanced with Lyndi Thorman, Lawyer, and Tara Welch all with the potential to have a breakout scoring game. Thorman’s game high this season has been 26 points (against both Havana and Monmouth-Roseville), Lawyer’s game high has been 21 points (against Illini West), and Welch has had a 23 point effort (against Illini West).

On the opposite side of the spectrum, B-PC/A is a very young inexperienced team. The Spartans graduated 8 of their top 9 players last season. Junior Shelby McAvoy is the only Spartan who gained any varsity experience a season ago. There is not a single Senior on the B-PC/A roster. The Spartans start two Freshman, and they have led the team this season. Bridjet Blout has consistently put up double-digits this season, and is the team’s top rebounder. Kendra Pierce is one of the quickest guards in the Peoria area, leading the team in steals and assists. The Spartans are also a balanced scoring team, with Blout, Pierce, Stacie Jones, Megan Billingsley, and Stacie Jones all being the team’s leading scorer at one point this season. B-PC/A comes in with a 3-6 record, with wins over Alwood, West Prairie, and Rushville-Industry. Their most recent contest was a high scoring overtime victory over R-I 71-65 at Rushville.
